Apple patch iOS and macOS RCE vulnerabilities
Apple has released security updates for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS Ventura to fix two remote code execution (RCE) vulnerabilities that allow remote or Internet attackers to inject malicious code into affected devices.
The publicly disclosed computer security vulnerabilities are listed in the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) database, which is designed to facilitate data sharing across multiple vulnerabilities.
CVE-2022-40303, an integer overflow vulnerability in libxml2, is one of the fixes. Unexpected app termination or the execution of arbitrary code can be caused by a remote user. An improved input validation has been used to fix the vulnerability.
A vulnerability in libxml2 is CVE-2022-40304 that could cause an unexpected app termination or the execution of arbitrary code by a remote user.
Apple also addressed CVE-2022-40303 and CVE-2022-40304 in iOS 16.1.1, iPadOS 16.1.1, and macOS Ventura 13.0.1 with improved input validation and checks.
There is no evidence that these vulnerabilities are actively exploited, but it is strongly recommended to install the updates as soon as possible to prevent potential attack attempts.
The vulnerabilities were discovered by researchers from Google Project Zero.
Users are advised to install the latest updates to fix the identified issues in order to prevent their device from being exploited by attackers.
