With the release of Ubuntu 23.04, all the official Ubuntu flavors have been upgraded to version 23.04. Those official flavors include Edubuntu 23.04, Kubuntu 23.04, Lubuntu 23.04, Ubuntu Cinnamon 23.04, Ubuntu Budgie 23.04, Ubuntu Kylin 23.04, Ubuntu MATE 23.04, Ubuntu Studio 23.04, Ubuntu Unity 23.04, and Xubuntu 23.04.

The Ubuntu 23.04 (Lunar Lobster) release is a short-term release for a duration of nine months, until January 2024. Since Ubuntu 23.04 is not a Long-Term Support version, it may not be suitable for everyone. Ubuntu 23.04 brings two new official flavors: Edubuntu 23.04 and Ubuntu Cinnamon 23.04, which we have already mentioned in our previous articles.

Ubuntu 23.04 Flavors: New Updates

The latest version of Xubuntu, 23.04, comes equipped with the newest Xfce 4.18 desktop environment and provides a Minimal ISO image option. In contrast, Lubuntu 23.04 features LXQt 1.2.0 as its default desktop environment, but users can access the latest LXQt 1.3.0 release via the Lubuntu Backports PPA. Furthermore, Lubuntu 23.04 includes a developmental version of the forthcoming major Calamares 3.3 installer release.

Both Kubuntu 23.04 and Ubuntu Studio 23.04 bring the latest default KDE Plasma 5.27 LTS desktop environment. This environment comes with the KDE Gear 22.12.3 and KDE Frameworks 5.104 software suites, which are all compiled using the Qt 5.15.8 LTS framework. Additionally, Ubuntu Unity 23.04 continues to improve the former default desktop environment of Ubuntu, with version 7.7 offering support for new in-Dash widgets.

In Ubuntu MATE 23.04, the MATE 1.26 desktop environment remains unchanged from previous editions. However, Ubuntu Budgie 23.04 now comes with the newest Budgie 10.7 desktop environment pre-installed. Additionally, Ubuntu Unity 23.04 has upgraded to the latest Unity 7.7 desktop environment, while Ubuntu Kylin 23.04 features the Qt-based UKUI 3.1 interface.
