New Ubuntu Desktop with Flatpak Preinstalled

A new Ubuntu Desktop is in development that provides the usual Ubuntu experience with the addition of Flatpak preinstalled. Since Canonical announced it to not include Flatpak by default, many users were unhappy with the decision.

It is the unofficial flavor of Ubuntu that comes with complete support for the Flatpak package format. Although the standard release of Ubuntu has built-in support for Snap Packages, this particular distribution focuses on Flatpak instead.

The “Flatpak Remix” of Ubuntu!

This new flavor is named Ubuntu Flatpak Remix. It is customized with Cubic (Custom Ubuntu ISO Creator) and utilizes LTS builds as a base. Additionally, it comes with the awesome GNOME desktop unchanged from the standard release.

The current version of Ubuntu Flatpak Remix provides Flatpak for popular applications like Mozilla Firefox and LibreOffice. It also has built-in support for the Flathub portal, which allows you to install Flatpaks in a few clicks.

The current release is the alpha version of the Ubuntu Flatpak Remix and is not recommended for production yet. If you want to try it now, you can download and use it for testing purposes. Check out the official website of Ubuntu Flatpak Remix or go to this link for downloading Alpha Build.

However, you are allowed to install and set up Flatpak on all official Ubuntu flavors, such as Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu Budgie, Ubuntu Kylin, Ubuntu Mate, Ubuntu Studio, Ubuntu Unity, and Xubuntu. But if you want to have the same Ubuntu along with Flatpak enabled by default, Ubuntu Flatpak Remix could be a great option for you.

To summarize, the Ubuntu Flatpak Remix is an unofficial variant of Ubuntu Desktop and is not recognized or endorsed by Canonical. The sole purpose of this project is to offer an alternative installation method to bypass Snap packages.
